Security Experts Discover Sophisticated Malware Campaign Targeting Android Users via Fake Chrome Install Pages
Artificial intelligence may excel at writing book reviews and delivering witty irony, but it’s no substitute for quality journalism, says Claudio Cerasa, editor of Italy’s Il Foglio.
In a groundbreaking experiment, the conservative newspaper published a four-page AI-written insert daily for a month—boosting sales and capturing attention. Encouraged by the success, Il Foglio plans to release a weekly AI-powered section and use the tech for occasional expert pieces, such as a recent article on astronomy.
Despite the innovation, Cerasa firmly rejects the idea that AI will replace journalists. “It’s not about doing less with fewer people, but doing more,” he told foreign reporters. He believes AI will enhance journalism by challenging reporters to be more creative, insightful, and deeply original.
Cerasa, who personally interacted with the AI tool, was most struck by its sharp sense of irony and speed—capable of digesting massive books and generating full reviews in minutes. But he also flagged limitations: a lack of independent judgment, factual errors, and outdated knowledge, such as failing to acknowledge Donald Trump’s 2024 re-election.
“You can’t have a meaningful editorial disagreement with AI,” Cerasa noted. “And that’s exactly why it won’t replace us.
