OpenAI is currently addressing a widespread outage that has left ChatGPT users unable to access the chatbot across web, mobile, and desktop platforms.
Many users encountering the problem have reported error messages such as "Hmm...something seems to have gone wrong," while others have seen "too many concurrent requests" or "error in message stream." The disruption began nearly seven hours ago and has affected all OpenAI APIs, as well as the company's Sora video and image generation tools.
In an earlier statement, OpenAI confirmed that some users were experiencing increased error rates and delays across multiple services and said it was investigating the issue. The company later reported it had identified the root cause and was in the process of applying a fix.
Since the issue began, outage tracking platform Downdetector has logged tens of thousands of user reports regarding ChatGPT and related app issues.
The disruption has also affected Perplexity, an AI-powered search engine that relies on OpenAI’s models. The company reported slow response times and a rise in error rates on its website.
A similar incident in April caused widespread service interruptions for ChatGPT users, producing errors during response generation.

OpenAI stated that it expects services to fully recover in a few more hours. According to the latest update, there are signs of improvement on the API side, and the team continues to implement the necessary fixes across all affected services. Further updates will be provided as recovery progresses.
