Cyberattack on Education Giant Pearson Exposes Customer Data

Pearson Hit by Cyberattack, Customer and Corporate Data Stolen

Education giant Pearson has experienced a cyberattack that led to the theft of corporate and customer data. Pearson is a UK-based company and is one of the world’s largest providers of educational materials, digital learning platforms, and standardized assessments. It serves schools, universities, and individuals in over 70 countries through both print and online services.

Pearson confirmed the security breach, acknowledging that an unauthorized party accessed part of its systems and stole data primarily older information. “We recently discovered that an unauthorized actor gained access to a portion of our systems,” a company spokesperson said.

Upon detecting the intrusion, Pearson said it quickly took steps to contain the activity and launched an investigation with forensic experts. The company also cooperated with law enforcement and has since strengthened its systems with enhanced monitoring and authentication protocols.

“Our investigation is ongoing, but we currently believe the attacker accessed mostly legacy data,” the spokesperson added. “We’re providing further details directly to affected customers and partners where necessary.”

Pearson also clarified that no employee data was compromised in the incident.
