Northwest Radiologists, a radiology practice based in Bellingham, Washington, is alerting approximately 350,000 residents of Washington State that their personal data was exposed in a recent security breach.
The incident took place on January 25, 2025, when the organization experienced what it described as a “network disruption.” In March, it disclosed that protected health information (PHI) stored on the affected systems may have been compromised.
The practice has now confirmed that attackers had access to its network from January 20 to January 25 and that they successfully accessed data during that time.
Information potentially exposed includes names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, birth dates, Social Security numbers, driver’s license and government ID numbers, medical diagnoses and treatment information, health insurance details, financial data, and banking information.
In response, Northwest Radiologists has strengthened its cybersecurity measures and is offering affected individuals free credit monitoring and identity protection services.
The organization reported to the Washington State Attorney General’s Office that 348,118 people in the state were affected. It remains unclear whether individuals in other states, such as Alaska where Northwest Radiologists also operates were impacted. The incident has not yet appeared on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ breach portal, and the organization has not specified the nature of the cyberattack. However, the network disruption may have been caused by ransomware.
