Peter Green Cyberattack Freezes UK Supermarket Supply Chain

Peter Green Cyberattack Freezes UK Supermarket Supply Chain

Peter Green Chilled, a logistics firm supplying major UK supermarkets including Tesco, Sainsbury’s, and Aldi, suffered a cyberattack that compromised its computer systems.

The attack occurred on a Wednesday, causing no orders to be processed the following day. However, orders prepared on Wednesday were still dispatched as planned. The company is providing clients with regular updates and temporary solutions to maintain deliveries during the disruption.

One supplier, Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones, expressed frustration over the lack of information, revealing he had about ten pallets of meat products at Peter Green Chilled that risk spoilage, potentially causing thousands of pounds in losses.

This cyberattack is part of a rising wave of threats targeting the UK retail sector. Other major retailers like Marks & Spencer and the Co-op were also targeted in May. Marks & Spencer’s breach is linked to the hacking group Scattered Spider, which disrupted its online operations. The Co-op confirmed hackers accessed and extracted data from one of its systems, exposing personal information of many current and former members.

The UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is collaborating with affected organizations to investigate and reduce the damage. NCSC CEO Richard Horne has urged all companies to follow guidance from the NCSC website to strengthen defenses and improve incident response.

Attacks on logistics firms like Peter Green Chilled can have serious consequences, disrupting supply chains and causing financial harm. All organizations, regardless of size, must improve cybersecurity measures to protect their operations and maintain supply chain integrity.
