GlobalX Investigates Cyberattack After Hackers Leak Alleged Data
Global Crossing Airlines, known publicly as GlobalX, has confirmed it is investigating a cybersecurity breach following the appearance of leaked data that hackers claim was taken from its systems.
The U.S.-based airline recently drew attention for its involvement in the Trump administration's deportation efforts, particularly concerning the deportation of Venezuelan gang members to El Salvador.
Hackers linked to the Anonymous movement have taken responsibility for the cyberattack. They defaced one of GlobalX’s subdomains and criticized the airline for its role in the deportation campaign. Along with the website defacement, the hackers claimed to have accessed and leaked flight records and passenger information, which they shared with media outlets.
In a filing submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday, GlobalX did not confirm that any data was stolen. However, it acknowledged detecting unauthorized activity on its systems and networks on May 5.
According to the company, the affected systems are tied to certain business applications, but the attack did not disrupt flight operations.
"Once the activity was identified, the company immediately activated its incident response procedures, engaged third-party cybersecurity experts to support containment and investigation efforts, and isolated the affected servers to stop any further access," GlobalX stated.
The company also noted that while the full impact of the breach is still under review, it does not anticipate any material effects on its business, financial condition, or overall operations.
