Swiss bank UBS announced on Wednesday that it experienced a data breach resulting from a cyber attack on one of its external service providers, though no client information was compromised.
According to Swiss newspaper Le Temps, the attack led to the theft of files containing personal details of tens of thousands of UBS employees from business services firm Chain IQ.
"A cyber attack targeting an external supplier resulted in the theft of information related to UBS and several other companies. No client data was compromised," the bank stated.
UBS added that it responded quickly and decisively upon learning of the incident to ensure its operations remained unaffected.
Chain IQ confirmed that it, along with 19 other companies, had been targeted in the breach, which led to a data leak published on the darknet. The company said it promptly implemented security measures and now considers the situation contained.
Chain IQ also noted that, for security and investigative reasons, it could not disclose whether a ransom was demanded or any interactions took place with the attackers.
Le Temps also reported that Swiss private bank Pictet may have been impacted by the same attack. Pictet has not yet responded to requests for comment.
