Victoria's Secret has taken down its US website and paused some in-store services following a security incident. The company has replaced its normal website with a notice informing
customers that it is working continuously to restore full operations. While its US services are affected, the UK website remains operational. Victoria's Secret, which operates approximately 1,350 stores across 70 countries, stated that it immediately activated its response protocols, engaged third-party cybersecurity experts, and took precautionary measures including shutting down certain systems. The exact nature and timing of the incident have not been disclosed.
The incident has drawn customer complaints on social media, with users expressing frustration over being unable to check order statuses or reach customer service. The company’s share price dropped by about 7% following its public statement. This security breach comes amid a wave of cyberattacks targeting major retailers. UK companies like M&S and Co-op have recently faced ransomware attacks that disrupted operations and compromised customer data. Cybercrime group Scattered Spider is suspected in some of these cases.
Cybersecurity experts advise affected customers to take immediate precautions such as changing passwords and enabling two-factor authentication. They also warn that even if users have not been directly notified, their data might still be at risk, as it often takes weeks for companies to identify everyone affected.
