Microsoft Teams Adds 60-Second Silent Test Call Feature for IT

Microsoft Teams Adds 60-Second Silent Test Call Feature for IT

Microsoft is introducing a proactive network monitoring feature for Teams administrators that uses 60-second silent test calls to evaluate connection quality without interrupting users. This innovation aims to boost enterprise communication reliability.

The new system creates simulated Teams calls targeting specific network subnets, helping IT teams detect issues before they affect performance. These test calls run discreetly on Teams for Windows and Mac desktops, activating only when devices are idle and users aren't on active calls.

To access the feature, devices must have Teams Premium licenses. During testing, users won’t receive any notifications or audio cues, maintaining a seamless experience.

This subnet-focused background monitoring gives admins valuable insights into potential problems like latency or weak connectivity. Microsoft plans a phased rollout beginning early September 2025 for Targeted Release users, with global availability expected by the end of the month.

No manual setup is required, eligible environments will receive the update automatically. Still, Microsoft advises IT administrators to review their network configurations and update documentation to ensure smooth integration.

By adopting regular silent test call routines, organizations can build a baseline for network performance and establish early detection systems for communication challenges.
