Nintendo’s $100 Alarm Clock Hits Snooze

Nintendo’s $100 Alarm Clock Hits Snooze

Nintendo has unveiled its latest gadget, the Nintendo Sound Clock, fondly known as ‘Alarmo’.

Nintendo has unveiled its latest gadget, the Nintendo Sound Clock, fondly known as ‘Alarmo’. This all-in-one alarm clock comes with motion-sensing capabilities and immersive soundscapes from popular Nintendo games. However, it will be available exclusively to Nintendo Switch Online members until March 2025.

Originally set for release in January 2025, Nintendo announced in a recent X (formerly Twitter) post that the launch has been postponed until early March. Following this period, the Alarmo clock will only be available through the My Nintendo Store in the UK and Ireland, still restricted to Switch Online members.

Features That Make ‘Alarmo’ Unique

Unlike a traditional alarm clock, Alarmo is packed with features tailored for Nintendo fans. One of its standout capabilities is its motion sensor, which allows users to snooze alarms with simple hand gestures, eliminating the need to press buttons.

The clock also features five iconic Nintendo game soundtracks to wake up to, including:

  • Super Mario Odyssey
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Splatoon 3
  • Pikmin 4

Ring Fit Adventure

Each game provides seven different soundscapes, offering a total of 35 unique wake-up variations. Additionally, users with a Nintendo account can download extra alarm tones, including tracks from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Beyond its alarm function, Alarmo doubles as a sleep tracker, monitoring how long users stay in bed, how much they move in their sleep, and how quickly they wake up. This feature enhances the overall user experience, making it more than just a regular clock.

Pricing and Availability

For now, Alarmo is only available to Nintendo Switch Online members in the US and Canada. After March 2025, it will move to the My Nintendo Store, where it will still be exclusive to Switch Online members in the UK and Ireland. The device is priced at $99.99.

Nintendo Expands with ‘Nintendo Music’

In addition to Alarmo, Nintendo has also launched ‘Nintendo Music,’ a dedicated music streaming app featuring official soundtracks from popular Nintendo games. The app allows users to stream and curate playlists based on their favorite game soundtracks, with selections from franchises like Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and Animal Crossing.

To enhance user experience, Nintendo Music offers several customization features, including:

  • The ability to create personalized playlists.
  • A spoiler protection option that hides certain tracks from games players haven’t finished.
  • An extended play mode, which allows songs to loop for up to 60 minutes.

Nintendo’s Growing Ecosystem

With the Nintendo Switch 2 on the horizon, the company is expanding beyond traditional gaming hardware by introducing new interactive gadgets and apps. Products like Alarmo and Nintendo Music suggest that Nintendo is focusing on enhancing the everyday experiences of its fans, offering unique entertainment options outside of gaming.

As the release of the next-generation Switch approaches, it will be interesting to see how these innovations shape Nintendo’s future product lineup.
