Swiss Authorities Report DDoS Attacks Tied to Eurovision
Swiss authorities have confirmed that several distributed denials of service attacks have targeted websites connected to the Eurovision Song Contest. These attacks were anticipated and did not affect the contest’s operations.
The Swiss National Cyber Security Centre has warned that similar attacks may continue and are likely intended to generate media attention rather than cause real damage. DDoS attacks are used to flood websites with traffic, making them slow or unavailable. They do not usually cause lasting harm or involve data theft.
In a statement, the Centre noted that the attacks aligned with its expectations ahead of the Eurovision final. The event’s systems have remained stable despite the attempted disruptions.
The authorities expect the attacks to continue through the Eurovision final on Saturday, May 17. Organisers and critical infrastructure operators have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
The Eurovision Song Contest is a yearly music competition that brings together participants from across Europe and beyond.
