Dutch Hosting Provider Argeweb Hit by DDoS Attack, Causing Prolonged Outages
Dutch web hosting company Argeweb has been grappling with ongoing performance issues for over a week due to a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, according to updates from its parent company, Yourhosting.
The problems began on March 25th, when Argeweb detected issues on some of its DNS servers, leading to poor domain resolution and accessibility problems for hosted websites. Initially, the company attributed the disruptions to technical glitches and said it was working to resolve them. While a temporary fix was implemented two days later, it failed to fully address the problem, prompting Argeweb to collaborate with suppliers to manage the recurring disruptions.
By March 31st, the situation remained unresolved, and the company reassured customers that a permanent solution was in the works. On April 1st, Yourhosting confirmed for the first time that the issues were being caused by a DDoS attack. The hosting provider said its team was “working hard on a permanent fix” to restore reliable service for its users.
As of the morning of April 3rd, Yourhosting reported that Argeweb’s platform had been stable for two days, thanks to “additional countermeasures” and enhanced monitoring designed to respond to new waves of attacks. A spokesperson also told Dutch tech site Tweakers that the company would continue to closely monitor the situation in the coming days.
This is not the first time Argeweb has been the target of a DDoS attack. A similar incident in May 2021 took down several services tied to its DNS infrastructure. In another notable event back in April 2012, customers were asked to reset their portal and FTP passwords after unauthorized access was detected through a third-party network provider—though that incident was described by the company as a precautionary measure.
While the current threat appears contained for now, the recurring nature of such attacks highlights the growing risk faced by web hosting services and the importance of resilient cybersecurity infrastructure in the industry.
