VeriSource Services, a provider of employee benefit administrative services, has announced a data breach
affecting four million individuals, revealing that their personal information was compromised in a hack that took place over a year ago.
The breach was discovered on February 28, 2024, just one day after a threat actor exfiltrated data from its systems. Following a review of the stolen data, which concluded on August 12, 2024, VeriSource began notifying impacted individuals a week later.
The stolen data includes personal information of employees and their dependents from companies using VeriSource's services. The company has been working with these organizations to gather necessary details to notify additional affected individuals. This notification process was completed on April 17, 2025.
While the exact compromised data varies by individual, it generally includes names, addresses, dates of birth, gender information, and Social Security numbers. VeriSource states that it has not identified any misuse of the stolen data but is offering 12 months of free credit monitoring and identity protection services to affected individuals.
The company advises those impacted to carefully review their debit and credit card statements for unusual activity. If any suspicious transactions are found, they are urged to contact their card issuer immediately. Last week, VeriSource informed the Maine Attorney General’s Office about the breach's impact on four million individuals.
Founded in 1997 and based in Houston, Texas, VeriSource offers employee benefits administration and HR outsourcing services, including data management, employee enrollment, billing, ACA reporting, dependent verification, and FMLA administration.
