Orange Belgium Breach Affects 850,000 Users

Orange Belgium revealed that a cyberattack in July led to unauthorized access to data from around 850,000 customer accounts. The breach affected systems containing names, phone numbers, SIM card details, PUK codes, and tariff plans. Passwords, emails, and financial data were not compromised.

The company, which serves over 3 million customers in Belgium and Luxembourg, is alerting affected users via email and SMS. Customers are advised to stay cautious, as scammers may use the stolen data to impersonate Orange or other companies.

Orange Belgium clarified that the breach was unrelated to recent global telecom attacks linked to China's Salt Typhoon group. While the company knows which threat group was responsible, it has withheld the name due to an ongoing investigation.

This incident is separate from a breach disclosed by Orange Group in late July, which impacted French operations. Earlier this year, Orange Romania also confirmed a breach involving internal documents and user data. In 2020, Orange Business Solutions was hit by a ransomware attack that exposed enterprise customer information.

Orange Group, the parent company, operates across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, serving 294 million customers and generating €40.3 billion in revenue last year.
