Germany and Israel have entered into a new agreement designed to strengthen cybersecurity and enhance security infrastructure, German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt announced to parliament on Wednesday.
The deal, signed by Dobrindt and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem over the weekend, outlines cooperation on several key initiatives: the creation of a joint “cyber dome” system, the establishment of an artificial intelligence and cyber innovation center, collaboration on drone defense, and improvements to civilian warning systems.
“We have enjoyed a trusted partnership in the past, and we aim to deepen it further,” Dobrindt stated. “Israel possesses significant expertise in cyber defense, and we intend to benefit from that.”
According to the German Interior Ministry, the agreement will also cover the protection of energy infrastructure and connected vehicle networks, while expanding joint efforts in civil protection, counter-terrorism, and criminal prosecution.
European nations are increasingly under pressure to reinforce their cyber defense capabilities in response to sophisticated and evolving threats.
