Kelly Benefits Breach Affects Over 413,000 People far more than first estimated
Kelly & Associates Insurance Group, also known as Kelly Benefits has significantly revised the scope of a recent data breach, now confirming that more than 413,000 individuals have been affected far beyond the initial estimate of 264,000.
The U.S.-based company, which provides payroll, benefits, and workforce management services, originally reported that hackers accessed its systems between December 12 and 17, 2024, stealing sensitive data such as names, Social Security numbers, medical details, and financial information. The breach impacted clients of several major firms, including CareFirst, Guardian, and Beam Benefits.
Kelly Benefits is notifying affected individuals on behalf of its clients. In a recent update filed with the Maine Attorney General’s office, the company revealed that it sent out additional notices on May 2, 2025, to 135 more Maine residents. This brings the total number of notified individuals in the state to 7,164. The company stated that the exposed data for these individuals includes names, Social Security numbers, and financial account details.
Although the breach was disclosed in April, the investigation remains ongoing, and the number of affected people may still increase. The company has not disclosed technical specifics about the attack, and so far, no ransomware group has claimed responsibility.
