Red Sea Cable Damage Disrupts Internet in Asia and Middleeast

Internet service has been disrupted in several countries, including India and Pakistan, due to damage to a key undersea cable in the Red Sea. The internet monitoring group NetBlocks confirmed the outages, noting that networks in the United Arab Emirates were also affected.

The cause of the damage is not yet known. However, NetBlocks identified failures impacting cable systems near Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Microsoft Azure, the world's second-largest cloud provider, confirmed that its users may experience higher latency for traffic routed through the Middle East. While the company has rerouted traffic through alternative network paths to prevent service interruptions, customers in the affected regions may still notice slower speeds. Traffic that does not pass through the Middle East remains unaffected.
