Meta is integrating its powerful AI-powered photo and video editing tools directly into Instagram Stories. This move makes it much easier for users to edit their media simply by entering text prompts to add, remove, or completely change elements within their photos and videos.
Easy Text-Based Editing
The new features are located within the “Restyle” menu, accessed by tapping the paintbrush icon at the top of Instagram Stories. Users can choose "add," "remove," or "change," and then describe their desired alteration in the prompt bar.
For example, Meta suggests users could ask the AI to change their hair color, add a crown to their head, or insert a dramatic sunset background. There are also preset effects to quickly alter outfits or apply artistic styles, such as a watercolor effect. For videos, users can add dynamic effects like snow or flames.
Terms and Privacy
It’s important to note that by using Meta AI on Instagram, users are accepting Meta’s AI Terms of Service. These terms allow Meta to analyze uploaded media, including facial features, to "summarize image contents, modify images, and generate new content based on the image."
Meta continues to heavily invest in AI features to stay competitive. The company was recently seen testing a “Write with Meta AI” prompt to help Instagram users draft clever comments for posts. Furthermore, the launch of an AI-generated video feed called “Vibes” in the Meta AI app boosted the app's daily active users to 2.7 million in October, up significantly from the previous month.
Addressing user concerns, Meta also announced new parental control features earlier this month. These controls allow parents to disable chats with AI characters and monitor the topics their teenagers are discussing with the Meta AI chatbot.
