Microsoft Backs Veeam Software to Power Next-Gen AI Solutions

Microsoft Backs Veeam Software to Power Next-Gen AI Solutions

Microsoft (MSFT.O) has made an undisclosed equity investment in Veeam Software as part of an expanded collaboration aimed

at developing artificial intelligence-driven solutions, the cloud data company announced on Tuesday.

Veeam specializes in software designed to help organizations quickly recover their data following cybersecurity breaches, ransomware incidents, or accidental deletions. A key feature of its platform is immutable backups, which prevent ransomware from altering or erasing data. This ensures that uncorrupted copies remain available for recovery, even if attackers encrypt files.

Microsoft had previously invested in cybersecurity company Rubrik (RBRK.N) in 2021, a firm that also provides backup and data recovery solutions. With Microsoft's support, Veeam plans to focus on research and development efforts, enhanced product design, and deeper integration of Microsoft’s AI services into its offerings.

Insight Partners, a U.S. private equity firm and Veeam’s largest shareholder, sold a $2 billion stake in the company in a secondary transaction last December, bringing Veeam's valuation to $15 billion. Insight Partners originally acquired Veeam in 2020 for approximately $5 billion.

Established in 2006, Veeam serves more than 550,000 customers worldwide, including major corporations like Deloitte and Canon, according to its website.
