WhatsApp Trials AI-Powered Custom Chatbots for Android Users
Meta is testing a new AI feature on WhatsApp that allows Android users to create personalized chatbots. Currently available to a limited group of beta testers, the tool is expected to roll out to a wider audience in the coming weeks, signaling Meta’s growing investment in AI-driven communication across its platforms.
This new feature, dubbed AI Studio, lets users design their own AI chatbots by specifying their role, personality, and even visual appearance. Users can write prompts of up to 1,000 characters to guide the chatbot’s behavior, whether to provide advice, teach a subject, or simply engage in casual conversation. Based on the input, WhatsApp will suggest personality traits for the chatbot’s avatar, although users are encouraged to customize these traits fully. Avatars can also be created or edited using text prompts, allowing for a highly tailored experience.
The development mirrors similar AI capabilities recently introduced on Instagram and Messenger, where users can create and share AI chatbots publicly. While it remains uncertain if WhatsApp will enable public sharing of chatbots, the integration points to Meta’s ambition to make AI-driven interactions as intuitive and personalized as messaging with real people.
According to Gadgets360, this feature marks a significant step in Meta’s strategy to embed AI more deeply into everyday communication, starting with familiar social platforms and expanding to their messaging services.
