DaVita Dialysis Provider Struck by Ransomware Attack

DaVita Reports Ransomware Attack Disrupting Operations

Kidney dialysis provider DaVita has disclosed a ransomware attack that disrupted parts of its operations over the weekend, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The company stated that on April 12, 2025, it became aware of a ransomware incident that encrypted specific parts of its network. In response, DaVita activated its cybersecurity protocols, isolating affected systems to contain the breach.

“We’re working closely with third-party cybersecurity professionals to investigate and remediate the incident, and we’ve alerted law enforcement,” DaVita said in the filing.

While the company has implemented interim solutions to restore some functionality, it said the full impact and timeline for resolution are still uncertain.

So far, DaVita has not identified the group behind the attack or disclosed any ransom demands. It’s also unclear whether any sensitive data was compromised.

DaVita operates approximately 3,000 dialysis centers, with more than 2,500 located in the U.S., serving around 200,000 U.S. patients—a 37% share of the U.S. dialysis market.

“We’re using backup systems and manual procedures to ensure patient care continues uninterrupted,” the company said, emphasizing its commitment to restoring operations swiftly.
