LNER confirms a data breach caused by a third-party supplier

UK train operator LNER (London North Eastern Railway) has confirmed that it experienced a data breach involving one of its third-party suppliers. According to a statement released by the company, unauthorized access was gained to files containing customer contact details and information about previous journeys.

LNER, which operates passenger services on the East Coast Main Line connecting major cities in England and Scotland, confirmed that the breach did not impact bank information, payment card details, or passwords. The company also noted that train operations and ticket sales were not affected by the incident.

While LNER’s statement did not provide any technical details about the attack or name the third-party supplier, it has urged customers to be cautious. The company advises customers to be vigilant for any unsolicited messages, as they may be part of phishing attempts, and to avoid responding to requests for personal information if they are unsure about the sender.
