Saudi Arabia Enhances Hajj 2025 with Advanced Digital Innovations

Every year, millions of Muslims travel worldwide to Mecca and Medina to perform Hajj, one of Islam’s five pillars and the most important spiritual journey for Muslims. In 2025, the Hajj

pilgrimage goes beyond devotion and reflection by showcasing a major leap in digital transformation and technology. Saudi Arabia has introduced numerous advanced upgrades to make the rituals easier, safer, and connected.

These innovations align with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 plan to become a global innovation hub while honoring its religious and cultural roots. According to Gulf News, Hajj 2025 will feature over 10,500 WiFi hotspots, full 4G and 5G coverage, AI-driven safety systems, and the world’s largest mosque cooling system, making it the most technologically advanced pilgrimage in Islamic history.

Free, fast internet access is available throughout the holy sites, including Mecca, Medina, Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah. This network allows pilgrims to stay connected with family, access religious content, and receive real-time updates from Hajj authorities.

The Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) has ensured full 4G and 5G network coverage at all major pilgrimage sites, supporting millions of users with smooth video calls and live broadcasts. Over 4,000 telecom experts are working to maintain these services during peak days.

For crowd safety, Saudi Arabia deployed an AI-powered crowd management system created with Aramco Digital. This system uses smart cameras, AI movement analysis, and secure communications to monitor crowd flow, spot congestion, and alert authorities to prevent accidents.

To combat the extreme summer heat, the Grand Mosque in Mecca now has the world’s largest cooling system. It pumps chilled air through underground pipelines to prayer halls, maintaining comfortable, clean air. This upgrade has already reduced heatstroke and dehydration cases during Hajj.

Medical response has been enhanced with AI-integrated, GPS-linked emergency systems for faster triage and coordination. Recently, an Egyptian pilgrim survived a heart attack due to rapid treatment enabled by this system.

Finally, the new Hajj Smart App offers multilingual navigation, live ritual updates, emergency contacts, health reminders, and maps to help pilgrims easily navigate crowded and unfamiliar areas. This digital platform ties together all the technology upgrades to create a seamless pilgrimage experience.
