A data breach at Wayne Memorial Hospital (WMH) in Georgia has compromised the personal information of over 160,000 individuals. The hospital discovered the ransomware attack on June 3, 2024, and found that hackers had been active on their network between May 30 and June 3.
During the attack, the hackers accessed a wide range of sensitive data. This includes names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, user credentials, credit card information, and extensive medical records like health insurance information, diagnoses, treatment history, lab results, and prescription details.
In response to the breach, WMH immediately took its network offline, restored its systems from backups, and engaged cybersecurity professionals to secure the network. The hospital also reset all network passwords and implemented additional security measures. While there is no evidence that the stolen information has been misused for identity theft or fraud, WMH is providing all 163,440 affected individuals with 12 months of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection.
The ransomware group Monti, which has been active since 2022 but appears to have stopped operations in May 2025, claimed responsibility for the attack on its leak site. However, the group mistakenly identified the victim as a hospital in Pennsylvania.
