Meta Puts Up $1M Reward at Pwn2Own 2025 for WhatsApp Hacks

Meta has partnered with the Zero Day Initiative (ZDI) to co-sponsor Pwn2Own Ireland 2025, a premier hacking competition set for October 21–24 in Cork. The event offers rewards of up to $1 million for zero-click remote code execution exploits targeting WhatsApp.

Organized by Trend Micro’s ZDI, the contest spans eight categories including mobile devices, smart homes, printers, NAS, surveillance systems, messaging apps, and wearables.

Among the top prizes:

  • $500,000 for one-click WhatsApp RCE exploits
  • $150,000 for zero-click account takeovers
  • $150,000 for RCE on Ray-Ban smart glasses and Meta Quest headsets
  • $100,000 for compromising SOHO routers within 30 minutes
  • $30,000 for self jailbreak exploits

The event reflects rising concerns over remote attacks on personal and enterprise tech, especially with increased work-from-home setups. New USB attack vectors and tougher SOHO challenges add complexity to the 2025 contest.

In 2024, Pwn2Own Ireland rewarded over $1 million across 70+ unique vulnerabilities. This year’s expanded scope and Meta’s involvement raise the stakes even higher.
